One of the most emblematic fountains in Madrid has changed from traditional halogen luminaires to lighting with LED technology. The new projectors that light up the goddess Mother Earth have been manufactured by Ignialight.

The challenge was to light up the goddess Mother Earth correctly, and bring modernity to the monument. In addition to an improvement in environmental sustainability, this had to be done without conducting any building work or moving any architectural elements

RGB LED projectors were installed with a DMX system. Ignialight’s DMX system controls each of the fountain’s luminaires, sections and divisions, by means of just a 2-wire cable. It was not necessary to install more electrical cables or make additional holes in the fountain.

Through this installation, we expanded the palette of colours to light up the fountain, and the colour combinations, as well as programming different sequences, totally independently for each of the sections, in order to light up each of the sections of the decorative fountain in colour and shape. 

With these new projectors, the fountain offers the possibility of choosing between the full spectrum of the colours of the rainbow in order to light up, combine and make different colour sequences. The fountain’s lighting was improved and also involved a reduction of 35,448 kW/year and a decrease of 81.6% compared with the previous energy consumption. Major water savings were made, as, in the past, every time that the colour of the fountain changed, it was necessary to empty the basin. In addition, significant savings were made in terms of maintenance and the minimal need for replacement. 

Using LED technology, we contribute to making the world more sustainable, in which respect for the environment and our surroundings plays an important role.
