The International Year of Light seeks to raise awareness about the importance of light and its associated technologies, such as energy, education, health, communications, etc. The main objectives set are: •Promote light-based technologies in order to promote quality of life in developed and developing countries. •Reduce light pollution and energy waste. •Promote a more sustainable world. •Promote youth education. •Strengthen women's role in the field of science. The opening ceremony will be celebrated in Paris on Monday, 19 January.
