Saldes, now more sustainable

22.01.2018

Saldes is the first municipality in Catalonia to have earned the local government’s distinction as a Space with Quality Night Sky (ECNQ), which is awarded to places that can be reached by the general public where the natural night sky can be seen. This is a major step forward for efficient, sustainable and environmentally friendly street lighting. The village’s enhanced street lighting was implemented using a lighting solution provided by Ignialight and the PC-amber technology made by this manufacturing company. Ignialight’s PC-amber luminaires emit orangey light. All LED color temperatures (6500 K, 4000 K, 3000 K) have a peak emission of around 440 Nm. This peak emission is the part of a LED’s light on the blue spectrum, which disperses light into the atmosphere more easily. These are two of the main factors that contribute to light pollution and that have a detrimental effect on the environment. Wildlife is highly sensitive to blue light, whilst the orange-tinted light of PC-amber LEDs is practically invisible to it, so it does not affect animals’ life or migratory cycles. This is why PC-amber LED technology has been accepted as fit for installation in areas given the highest light-protection rating and subject to restrictions on lighting.
