Replacement of luminaires in an industrial facility in the graphics sector, in which constant lighting is required in order to work at the high level of accuracy required for production.

The main challenge was to define the level of energy savings that the use of Bayled and Smart Bayled luminaires would provide (adjustable luminaires with a control system), in comparison with the luminaires previously installed in the warehouse: metal-halide. The same level of brightness needed to be maintained on the warehouse floor, while seeking the best option in terms of quality/savings between the three technologies

The three technologies were installed in the warehouse for one month, in order to gather data and conduct the analysis, to enable the best lighting option to be installed. The three technologies were installed in parallel, in order to compare the level of consumption in the same environmental conditions. The level of brightness on the floor was defined at 230 lux, the level at which the metal-halide lamps were working at the time. 

The data gathered enabled us to make a comprehensive analysis of the three technologies. The result was that in the areas where the metal-halide lamps and Bayled were installed, the lights were switched on at full power throughout the day, and the two luminaires could not be adjusted or controlled. It should be emphasised that even though both systems were switched on 100% during the entire working day, major energy savings of 50% were still made with the Bayled and metal-halides, as well as a significant increase in constant brightness of up to 270 lux (an increase of 17% luminosity due to the use of Bayled lamps).

By comparing the metal-halide lamps (400 W) with the Smart Bayled (200 W) installed, we achieved energy savings of 82%. When the working day begins, the level of lighting on the ground is 270 lux (with the Smart Bayled switched on). As the day progresses, as it gets lighter and light enters the warehouse’s skylights, the Smart Bayled luminaires reduce the intensity of the light until they are switched off. Throughout the afternoon, as less natural light enters through the skylights, the Smart Bayled luminaires come on gradually, meaning that there is always the same level of brightness on the ground.
